Highlights black shale of the rift-related late Mesoproterozoic Arctic Bay Fm. was deposited under a stratified oxygenated / anoxic water column metal enrichments were caused primarily by stripping from the water column and possibly enhanced by diagenetic redistribution into subtle carbonate-bearing layers concentrated venting was absent at the study location, but basin geochemistry was suitable for formation of SEDEX and polymetallic deposits U-Th-Pb whole-rock depositional age of the Arctic Bay Formation is 1092±59 Ma

Sources, Distributions, and Dynamics of Dissolved Organic Matter in the Canada and Makarov Basins
A comprehensive survey of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) was conducted in the Canada and Makarov Basins and adjacent seas during 2010–2012 to investigate the dynamics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the Arctic Ocean. Sources and distributions of DOM in polar surface waters were very heterogeneous and closely linked to hydrological conditions...
متن کاملEvolution of the Deep Water in the Canadian Basin in the Arctic Ocean
An overflow of magnitude 0.25 Sv (Sv 10 m 3 s ) has been predicted to enter the Makarov Basin (part of the Canadian Basin in the Arctic Ocean) from the Eurasian Basin via a deep gap in the dividing Lomonosov ridge. The authors argue that this overflow does not ventilate the deep Makarov Basin (below 2400 m) where the water is too warm and salty to be compatible with such a large cold fresh infl...
متن کاملDeep mesoscale eddies in the Canada Basin, Arctic Ocean
[1] Numerous eddies have been identified in a seven year time series of mooring observations in the Canada Basin, Arctic Ocean. We focus on a series of deep eddies centered at 1200 m depth, and occupying up to 1500 m of the water column. The deep eddies are found to be spatially localized, only ever being observed at one of four mooring sites of the Beaufort Gyre Observing System in the Canada ...
متن کاملLaterally spreading iron, humic-like dissolved organic matter and nutrients in cold, dense subsurface water of the Arctic Ocean
The location and magnitude of oceanic iron sources remain uncertain owing to a scarcity of data, particularly in the Arctic Ocean. The formation of cold, dense water in the subsurface layer of the western Arctic Ocean is a key process in the lateral transport of iron, macronutrients, and other chemical constituents. Here, we present iron, humic-like fluorescent dissolved organic matter, and nut...
متن کاملSpatio-temporal distribution of dissolved inorganic carbon and net community production in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas
As part of the 2002 Western Arctic Shelf–Basin Interactions (SBI) project, spatio-temporal variability of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) was employed to determine rates of net community production (NCP) for the Chukchi and western Beaufort Sea shelf and slope, and Canada Basin of the Arctic Ocean. Seasonal and spatial distributions of DIC were characterized for all water masses (e.g., mixed l...
